ontext is determined by the size of our faith. Comfort is not the best measure of our blessings. Our blessings are measured by our service to the Gospel and healing we bring to others.
These are the statements from Jesus that are all counter-intuitive. Men especially would have trouble with these statements; unless they’re Christian. Even then, the nature of men, in general, would have trouble following most or at least some some of what Jesus stated to His Disciples
The point in both cases is looking out for the welfare of others. That’s humility. Pride is the virus that makes people think of themselves first, and many times only.
We cannot understand our present troubles until we trust in God and give our concerns up to God. Then we need to trust in God’s timetable and be ready to accept what He sends our way. If a person has made bad choices or been the victim of crime, there may indeed be consequences that may change their current circumstances permanently. Still we need to trust. Don’t abandon the ship before God gives a solution.
Billy Graham said a better word than “poor” is “humble”. Don’t confuse humble with humiliated. Humble is the opposite of being prideful. Not having to always have our way, but to be able to defer to others.
