BAD NEWS IS THE RIGHT TITLE!
Study any predator and they always go after the weakest and most isolated prey animal in the flock or herd. And undeterred they’ll eventually pick off the whole flock or herd. All the animals of a species of prey are vulnerable if that species is solitary.
We are all “sin sick”. Our survival depends on our togetherness. This is not about illness. This is about spiritually healthy lay members of the congregation setting righteous models, influencing non-believers, and winning lost souls to Christ. One person alone may not be able to accomplish all of this. But we can all plant seeds. These seeds eventually lead a non-believer to become a believer.
(1 Corinthians 3:5-9 WEB) 5Who then is Paul, and who [is] Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? 6I have planted, Apollos watered: but God hath given the increase. 7So then, neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth: but God that giveth the increase. 8Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward, according to his own labor. 9For we are laborers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, [ye are] God’s building.
Has your church attendance been lower than pre-COVID levels? Has the same level of energy returned to your worship service and benevolent efforts of your church. The church attendance in my church is down and our benevolent efforts have fewer volunteers. There are lots of (poor) reasons why this happens.
- Not following guidelines that prevent COVID
- The divisiveness in our country supersedes trust in a God
- Poor economy limits our ability to give (legitimate).
- Too much time together makes us want to be alone
- The only Bible knowledge comes from the sermons
- (and) people don’t read the Bible for themselves.
- People are used to using social media in non-Christian ways
My concern is the spiritual health of saints who have stopped attending in person. We were getting to a closer fellowship before our Sunday evening service was suspended for the summer. We can grow spiritually individually and in numbers if we follow the principles outlined in the scripture.
Transparency Among Men
God means for us to be real with one another. But since we don’t sense Jesus is in our midst, we subconsciously feel He can’t know what we’re really about. But He does know. And we have the Holy Spirit to guide us into loving everyone in our church, being able to be transparent without being an item of gossip, and being able to speak and receive truth that has been conveyed in love.
I think there is a real issue with being physically isolated during the pandemic. Closeness in a family can feel like smothering. People still need space with the same sex, the smae age, and similar interests.
But with video chats people can see one another’s body language and tone of voice, which make up the majority of communication as if they’re in the same room.
