Prayer is essential for the church and for Christians. Note what Paul and Timothy are praying for. It is our walk in Christ that is the highest priority. It guides the church and allows the Holy Spirit to work in the lives of Christians.
(Colossians 1:9-10 WEB) 9For this cause we also, since the day we heard [it], do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10That ye may walk worthy of the Lord to all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
goals of prayer
- spiritual understanding
- pleasing the Lord
- fruitful in good works
- increasing in knowledge
(Colossians 1:11-14 WEB) 11Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, to all patience and long-suffering with joyfulness; 12Giving thanks to the Father, who hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: 13Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated [us] into the kingdom of his beloved Son: 14In whom we have redemption through his blood, [even] the forgiveness of sins:
The Christian will be strengthened with the fruits of patience, perseverance, and joy. They will give thanks to God realizing they too have an inheritance with the saints. Instead of Hell they inherit Heaven where Jesus reigns.
And all of this comes because Jesus was the perfect lamb who takes away the sin of all who will call on His name. He died for all of mankind, but men often prefer the pleasures of this world (which are not pleasures at all) and doom their fate.
